Academic Experience

Mathematics BSc: Currently studying mathematics at undergraduate level.

Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE): Completed a 20-week, full-time mathematics course at the University of Sussex, covering curriculum content from KS3 to A-Level.

Academic Record: Achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE Maths, an A in AS Maths/Further Maths, and hold a First Class Honours degree.

Teaching Mastery

School Experience: Over 2 years of experience delivering mathematics support across primary and secondary schools.

Teacher Training: Completed the first stage of a secondary Mathematics PGCE, gaining classroom experience and training in teaching methods.

SEND: Experience in supporting students with SEND through school-based interventions and 1-to-1 tuition, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia. Also experience in supporting students with EAL.

Teaching Maths Through Chess: Certified by the European Chess Union (ECU) and ChessPlus. I am trained to use chess-based frameworks to teach core mathematical concepts, helping students visualize abstract ideas in a fun, practical way.

Building Strong Foundations

Mathematics is a cumulative subject where new topics build on previous knowledge. I would always recommend starting tuition earlier, as it gives students a chance to address gaps in learning and develop strong foundations, stay on track and build confidence in mathematics.

Most of my students start working with me in early KS3 or even primary, which allows us to focus on developing a deeper understanding of key topics and mastering mathematical skills.

That said, it is never too late to seek support. Some students need extra tuition close to exams to help with catch-up and revision or to work on exam technique.

Many parents wonder if online tutoring can match the impact of face-to-face learning. In my experience across both classrooms and 1-to-1 settings, the digital environment actually offers a distinct pedagogical advantage: it encourages maths oracy.

Developing Mathematical Voice: In person, a student can just point at a piece of paper. Online, they are naturally prompted to verbalize their thought processes and explain their steps out loud.
Active Learning: To solve a problem online, the student has to actively guide the session with their voice. This shift to active explanation can support stronger understanding and long-term retention.
Interactive Visual Tools: Using digital whiteboards and dynamic geometry software, we can manipulate graphs, fractions, and shapes in real-time, making abstract concepts instantly visual in ways a static textbook cannot replicate.
